ORCHID BEACH, K'GARI.
Whatever brings you here, we've got a place you can rest your head.
1 enclosed bedroom with a queen-sized bed, chest of drawers and shelf with hanging space.
1 curtained off room with a queen-sized bed and chest of drawers.
1 triple bunk and 1 single bunk in the main living area.
We can accommodate up to 9 guests (including kids) or a maximum of 6 adults...
Both of the Queen bedrooms have ceiling fans and there is also a ceiling fan in the living/bunk area.
We supply pillows, waterproof mattress protectors and comforters for each bed. You'll just need to BYO fitted and top sheets.
We have a porta-cot (bring your own linen if required) and a booster seat/highchair available for your convenience.
We are completely off-grid... meaning we run on solar and batteries. Please be mindful of your power usage when there are multiple days of bad weather. When the batteries reach a low level of charge, the generator will kick in.
(The generator comes on automatically for a short while every Saturday around midday. If the generator comes on any other time, please switch off any unnecessary appliances in the meantime.
We are on septic here, so please refrain from flushing foreign stuff (that includes baby wipes, paper towels, ladies sanitary items, etc.) down the loos.
If you could also refrain from tipping bulk grease/oil/food waste down the kitchen sink, that would be grouse. Our grease trap will thank you (as will we).
Our lawn is one of our favourite things, so please disengage 4x4 (if applicable) and don't spin your tyres when you drive on it.
The bore pump switches on at midday every day to top up the main water tank. Please do not turn the sprinklers off while it's running! If at least 1 sprinkler is not running, it will blow/damage the pump/fittings.
We require a $400 bond/deposit due within 1 week of making any booking. This will be refunded back to you within 3 days of vacating if no damage has occurred to the property and no extra cleaning has been required.
If you leave the property clean and tidy and you wish to rebook for the same time the following year, you're welcome to use your $400 bond as a deposit for the next year. (This is dependent on available dates.)
Please ensure that the property is left clean and tidy. We usually have other tenants coming in the same day and our cleaner also has other properties to tend to between tenants.
Those of you who have done the whole Fraser accommodation thing will know the drill. For those of you that don't, you will need to keep note of the tide times, being located a couple hours from the barge means you may need to leave earlier than your checkout time... you may also need to kill time down the beach so you're not travelling on the wrong tide.)
We do Friday to Friday bookings only. Accommodation is to be paid IN FULL 4 weeks prior to checking in. If you do not pay by the due date and fail to alert us of your intentions, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and hold onto any deposit paid.
Check in is 2pm.
Check out is 10am.
(STRICTLY! REGARDLESS OF TIDES!)
Please contact Caylah to enquire about our rates and availability to ensure you don't get double booked.
Please note that on rare occasions, owners or service people may access the other sheds on the property for maintenance, etc. during your stay. You will be notified in advance if this is the case.
Cancellation policy:
All cancellations incur a $60 fee.
$400 deposit is non-refundable if you cancel less than 8 weeks before your arrival.
If cancelling within 8 weeks of your booking, any balance payments made will be refunded but your initial $400 deposit is not refundable.
If you cancel your booking within four 4 weeks of your arrival date, no refund will be made unless we are able to refill your booking.
The above cancellation policy may differ from Airbnb/Stayz platforms, so these conditions apply to any private booking made direct through Caylah.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring your own personal items such as clothing, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, sunscreen, toilet paper, etc. Make sure you bring ALL your food and drinks (that includes the morning coffee), depending on the season, the local shop may not have backups of what you need and you won't want to be left short if you can avoid it. I always tell myself I'd rather be looking at it than looking for it.
Don't forget your sheets (we have 2 x Queen, 1 x Double and 3 x Single beds), bath towels, beach towels, first aid supplies, medication, dishwashing liquid and cloths, washing powder/liquid, paper towels, tissues and other cleaning products. We'd love to be able to supply these items but unfortunately due to the fact we're based on the mainland, we are unable to keep track of the inventory of these items and we would hate for anyone to expect these items only for them to have run out without our knowledge.
We have drinkable, unfiltered tank water but those of you that have sensitive stomachs may want to bring bottled water for your own peace of mind.
Other than that, we have all the crockery and cutlery you will need. We would appreciate if you could inform us of any breakages or if there's anything you think our kitchen is missing so we can replace/purchase these items. Please let us know if you accidentally take something home with you! We understand accidents happen, but we rely on your honesty to ensure future guests have access to items they're promised during their stay. We promise we won't be mad.
Oh... 1 more thing...
Dingoes (Wongari), as you are aware, are well-known locals over here. It is illegal (and frowned upon) to feed or interact with them. The Orchid beach Dingo fence is now complete, but they may still get in if someone leaves a gate open.
There is no wheelie bin service up here, so when your bin is full, you'll need to take it to the Orchid beach dump yourself. Keep driving South along Eliza Avenue, take the right-hand track at the end of the boards and you'll find it.
Other than rubbish, dingoes also see kids as easy targets. As parents, we know kids are sneaky and they don't have the mental capacity to sense danger. So please do your best to keep an eye on the kids when they're in the dingo's environment. If you feel you are in danger, remember to never run or turn your back on a dingo. If you are walking, carry a stick with you and stand tall and confident. They're excited by quick movements and may chase you if you try to run away. Teach your children to alert you straight away if they spot a dingo so you can assist them to safety. (We've taught our young kids to yell out "Dingo" instead of calling our names if they spot one. If we know instantly why they need us, we can react quicker and ensure we get them to safety ASAP.)
And don't forget... the key to not getting bogged up here is tyre pressure ;)
When in doubt, let some air out.
